Mansfield Town FC – Your Complete Travel Guide

🏟️ ABOUT THE ONE CALL STADIUM (FIELD MILL)

The One Call Stadium, historically known as Field Mill, holds the remarkable distinction of being the oldest continuously used stadium in the English Football League, hosting football since 1861 – although some reports suggest it dates back as far as 1850. This historic venue in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, has witnessed over 160 years of football and remains home to Mansfield Town FC, fondly known as “The Stags”. The stadium name derives from a large water-powered textile mill that stood directly across the road until its demolition in 1925, giving the ground its historic Field Mill name before sponsorship brought the One Call Stadium designation in April 2012.

Currently holding approximately 9,186 spectators across three operational stands, the stadium underwent major modernisation between 1999 and 2001 when the North Stand, Quarry Lane End (South), and the impressive two-tier Ian Greaves Stand (West) were completely rebuilt. The fourth side, the Bishop Street Stand (East), was closed in 2006 for health and safety reasons and has remained shut ever since, giving the ground a slightly lopsided appearance.

However, exciting developments are underway – renovation work began in 2024 to restore and expand the Bishop Street Stand, aiming to add new toilet facilities, state-of-the-art hospitality boxes, and increased capacity. Work has progressed through 2025-26, with a new floor structure and 727 seats opened early in the 2025-26 season, although the complete renovation is still ongoing as of February 2026.

The ground is owned outright by John and Carolyn Radford, who completed the purchase in early 2019 after a series of payment instalments from 2012. An interesting quirk in the sale agreement prohibits non-sporting events at the venue until 2032, following a controversial pop concert in 2010. Mansfield Town Football Club was founded in 1897 as Mansfield Wesleyans and has been playing at this historic venue since 1919.

The club’s nickname, “The Stags,” refers to the regal deer of nearby Sherwood Forest. Playing in their distinctive blue and yellow (or amber) kit, the Stags have enjoyed a remarkable journey from non-league football to League One, achieving promotion from League Two in 2023 under manager Nigel Clough. The club’s main rivalry is with Chesterfield, while they also compete in Nottinghamshire derbies against Notts County.
