Salford City — Your Complete Travel Guide for 2025-26

ℹ️ 2025-26 Season Guide: All information has been researched and verified for the current season. Always check salfordcityfc.co.uk for the latest ticketing and matchday updates before you travel. ⚠️ Important: Peninsula Stadium is a cashless venue — cards and contactless only, no cash accepted inside the ground. The Park & Ride service operates from Agecroft Industrial Estate (M27 8SJ) for most home fixtures — costs around £2.

🏟️ ABOUT THE PENINSULA STADIUM

The Peninsula Stadium, named after a sponsorship deal with Salford-based employment law specialists Peninsula, sits in the Kersal area of Salford, just off Moor Lane. The postcode is M7 3PZ. Compact, modern and fully enclosed, it was famously reopened by Sir Alex Ferguson in October 2017 after a complete rebuild.

The stadium has a capacity of 5,108, with 2,240 seats. All four sides are covered, the corners are closed off, and one of the ground’s most distinctive features is its floodlights — shaped in the form of the Salford City club badge and outlined in red LED lighting. Easily one of the most eye-catching sets of floodlights in the EFL.

Away supporters are housed in the East Terrace — a covered standing area of 12 shallow steps with good acoustics. Even a modest allocation can make real noise here. Up to 200 additional seats in the adjacent North Stand are also made available to away fans at no extra cost. Both areas share the same turnstile entrance on Moor Lane.

Salford City were founded in 1940 as Salford Central and spent decades in non-league football. Their rapid rise began in 2014 when the Class of ’92 — Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville — took ownership. The club reached the EFL for the first time in 2019. The club anthem is the Pogues’ “Dirty Old Town,” played as the teams walk out.

In May 2025, a new ownership group led by David Beckham and Gary Neville completed a takeover, with US businessman Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies joining as co-chairmen. The club has League Two ambitions and significant investment behind it. Salford in 2025-26 is a fascinating, evolving football story, well worth experiencing in person.

🚗 GETTING TO THE PENINSULA STADIUM

The Peninsula Stadium sits in the Kersal area of Salford, roughly 4km north of Manchester city centre. It’s a residential location with no parking at the ground and restricted streets all around. Public transport is the preferred approach — the bus from Manchester city centre is the most straightforward option.

Drivers face a challenging matchday: residents-only parking zones are actively enforced by wardens around the ground. The club’s Park & Ride from Agecroft Industrial Estate (M27 8SJ) is the recommended option — around £2 to park with a bus shuttle to and from the ground.

The nearest mainline stations are Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly, both around 3 miles away. From either, the bus is the best option — routes 97, 98 and X43 run along Bury New Road, stopping close to Moor Lane, with a short walk to the ground from there.

🚂 BY TRAIN — Into Manchester, Then Bus to the Ground

“`

The Key Fact: There’s no station within easy walking distance of Peninsula Stadium. The best plan is to get the train to Manchester Victoria or Manchester Piccadilly, then take a bus from the city centre. Buses 97, 98 and X43 Witchway run along Bury New Road and drop off right by the junction with Moor Lane — a 5-minute walk to the away turnstiles. Buy a return bus ticket for around £4.

Journey Times to Manchester:

🔴 London Euston: approx. 2 hrs 10 mins to Manchester Piccadilly (direct)

🟠 Bristol Temple Meads: approx. 2 hrs 15 mins to Manchester Piccadilly (1 change)

🟡 Birmingham New Street: approx. 1 hr 25 mins to Manchester Piccadilly (direct)

🟢 Leeds: approx. 1 hr to Manchester Victoria (direct)

🟢 Sheffield: approx. 1 hr to Manchester Piccadilly (direct)

🔵 Liverpool Lime Street: approx. 35 mins to Manchester Victoria (direct)

🟣 Newcastle: approx. 2 hrs 15 mins to Manchester Piccadilly (1 change, via Leeds)

Getting from Manchester to the Peninsula Stadium

🚌 Bus (25 mins, approx. £4 return)

From Manchester Victoria or Shudehill Interchange, take bus 97 or 98 towards Bury. Alight at the junction of Bury New Road and Moor Lane — look out for the Hazeldean Hotel as a landmark. It’s a 5-minute walk down Moor Lane to the away entrance. The X43 Witchway runs every 15 minutes on Saturday afternoons from Chorlton Street (Stop EZ) and is another reliable option. Check tfgm.com for times.

🚎 Taxi (approx. 20 mins, £10–15 from city centre)

Taxis from central Manchester take around 20 minutes in normal traffic. Pre-book via a local firm or use an app — don’t rely on finding a cab near the ground after the match. Shared taxis are a cost-effective option for groups of three or four.

🚶 Walking from Crumpsall Metrolink (35 mins)

The closest Metrolink stop is Crumpsall (on the Bury line from Manchester Victoria). Exit the station, turn left onto Station Road, right onto Seymour Road, follow to the end and turn right onto Bury Old Road. Look for the City of Salford sign and turn left onto Singleton Road. A pleasant enough walk but allow 35 minutes.

💡 Top Tip: Most away fans recommend drinking in Manchester city centre (Northern Quarter or the Printworks area) before hopping on the bus to the ground. There’s very little near Peninsula Stadium itself — plan your pre-match in the city.

🚗 BY CAR — Be Warned: Parking is Seriously Limited

Peninsula Stadium is roughly 2 miles from Junction 17 of the M60. The surrounding streets around Moor Lane and Neville Road operate under a residents-only parking scheme, which is enforced by wardens on matchdays. This is not an idle threat — fans regularly receive tickets. Do not park on restricted roads.

Getting There by Car:

  • From the South/M60 Junction 17: Head onto the A56 towards Manchester city centre. After passing a Lidl on the left, take the third right at the traffic lights (signposted Oaklands Hall / St Paul’s Church) into Moor Lane. The away entrance is on your left.
  • From the North/M66: Join the M60 westbound and exit at Junction 17. Follow the A56 as above.
  • From the West/M62: Exit at Junction 18 onto the M60 Ring Road, then exit at Junction 17 and follow signs for A56 North.

Parking Options:

  • 🚙 Park & Ride — Agecroft Industrial Estate (M27 8SJ): The recommended option. Parking costs around £2; a shuttle bus runs to and from the ground. Spaces are limited, so arrive well before kick-off. Check salfordcityfc.co.uk to confirm it’s operating for your match.
  • St Paul’s Road / Kersal Moor Road: Some unrestricted on-street parking exists further from the ground. Check lamp post signage carefully. Kersal Moor Road is useful for a faster exit post-match, turning right for Prestwich and the M60 North or left for Swinton and the M61/M60 South.
  • Blue Badge holders: May park in the restricted zone for up to three hours in line with badge conditions. Display your badge with the timer clearly set.

🚨 Warning: Parking enforcement on matchdays is active and consistent. The Park & Ride is genuinely the best option for drivers — avoid the risk of a fine by using it. There is no parking for away supporters at the ground itself.

🍺 PUBS & DRINKS NEAR THE PENINSULA STADIUM

⚠️ KEY ADVICE: There are virtually no pubs within easy walking distance of Peninsula Stadium — the area is a quiet residential neighbourhood. The strong advice from experienced away fans is to have your pre-match drinks in Manchester city centre, then catch the bus to the ground. Plan your day around the city, not the ground.

🍺 Near the Ground (Limited Options)

🍺 The Star Inn — On the Cliff (2 Back Hope Street, Salford, M7 2FR)

The closest proper pub to Peninsula Stadium is officially recommended as an away fans venue. A community-owned pub with two real ales always on, Guinness, lagers and a covered outdoor space. Around a 20-minute walk from the ground, or a short taxi. Friendly welcome guaranteed. Check staronthecliff.co.uk for details. 📞 0161 307 0776.

🍺 Fairways Lodge (George Street, Prestwich, M25 — approx. 10 mins walk via footpath)

A hotel bar set back down a cul-de-sac, accessible via a pleasant footpath across Prestwich Golf Course and Kersal Moor. Quiet and local in character; useful if you’ve arrived by car and parked nearby. Not a traditional football pub, but serviceable pre-match.

🍺 The Friendship Inn (Scholes Lane, Prestwich, M25 0PD — 30 mins walk post-match)

A popular post-match destination for those who’ve driven or are heading back through Prestwich. A bit of a walk from the ground (around 30 minutes on foot), but well worth it for a relaxed pint after the game. Worth checking its current opening hours before travelling.

🍺 Manchester City Centre (Recommended Pre-Match Base)

The overwhelming consensus from away fans is to spend pre-match time in Manchester city centre, which is only around 20 minutes by bus from the ground. The Northern Quarter, Deansgate and the area around Shudehill offer dozens of excellent options.

🍺 Wetherspoons — Various City Centre Branches

The Seven Stars on Withy Grove (near Shudehill, close to the ground’s bus stops) is a reliable, budget-friendly option for pre-match. Large, unrestricted for away colours and right by the bus interchange for routes to the ground.

🍺 Northern Quarter Bars (Oldham Street / Thomas Street area)

Manchester’s Northern Quarter is one of the UK’s best areas for independent bars and craft beer. Plenty of options on Oldham Street, Thomas Street and nearby — a superb pre-match destination for away fans who want something beyond the usual chain pub experience.

🍺 Salford Lads’ Club Area — For The Smiths Fans

Salford Lads’ Club on St Ignatius Walk (made famous by The Smiths’ “The Queen is Dead” sleeve) is a genuine attraction. There are limited drinking options immediately nearby, but the surrounding Ordsall and Regent Road area has a number of local pubs worth exploring.

🍺 Inside the Ground (Away Fanzone)

🍺 Babs’ Café — Away Fanzone

Behind the East Terrace, away fans have access to two kiosks. Babs’ Café is a Peninsula Stadium institution — serving burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pies, chips, soup, hot drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. The second kiosk offers San Miguel on draught, Guinness, Somersby, Carlsberg and spirits. Cards/contactless only — no cash.

🍔 FOOD NEAR THE PENINSULA STADIUM

Food options near the ground are limited due to the residential nature of the area. The away fanzone kiosks inside the  Peninsula Stadium are actually your most convenient option on matchday. For a wider choice, eat in Manchester city centre before heading to the ground.

🍔 Inside the Ground — Babs’ Café

The away fanzone kiosk serves burgers, hot dogs, pies, chips, chicken nuggets, soup and hot drinks. A broad menu for this level — well above average for League Two concourse food. The club works with The Difference Group to provide a varied offering. Cards only — no cash.

🍔 Burger Van — Outside the Away End

There is often a burger van parked on Moor Lane near Turnstile Block A on matchdays. Useful if you want to eat before going through the turnstiles. Check before you queue that it’s accepting cards if you don’t have cash handy.

🍔 Manchester City Centre — Pre-Match Food

Manchester has an outstanding food scene. The Northern Quarter has everything from traditional British to world cuisine. Kargo MKT at Salford Quays is a popular street food hall. If travelling from the south, arriving early in the city for food before the bus out to the ground is the savvy approach.

🏨 WHERE TO STAY NEAR THE PENINSULA STADIUM

The proximity to Manchester city centre makes this an excellent overnight away day or weekend. Most away fans stay in Manchester rather than Salford itself, giving access to the city’s superb bars and restaurants. Book in advance for weekend fixtures.

⚽ MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE AT THE PENINSULA STADIUM

🏟️ Away Section: The East Terrace is a covered standing terrace with excellent acoustics — even small away followings sound impressive. Up to 200 extra seats in the North Stand are available at no extra cost. Both areas share the same turnstile entrance (Block A, Moor Lane).

⚠️ Cashless Venue: Peninsula Stadium operates a cashless policy for all transactions inside the ground. Cards and contactless payments only. Bring your bank card — there are no cash machines inside the ground and no exceptions to the policy.

🔊 Atmosphere: The fully enclosed bowl with covered corners helps amplify crowd noise. Salford have a vocal core of supporters, and the teams walk out to The Pogues’ “Dirty Old Town” — a brilliant piece of local character. A well-supported away end can really lift the atmosphere.

🏟️ The Floodlights: Don’t miss the floodlights — shaped in the form of the Salford City club badge and outlined in red LED lighting. A genuinely unique design and one of the talking points of any visit to Peninsula Stadium. Worth looking up when you arrive.

🛍️ Club Shop: Accessible from outside the stadium via Moor Lane only. Once you’ve gone through the turnstiles, you cannot access the club shop until segregation is lifted after the final whistle. If you want to browse, do it before going in.

📍 Pitch Slope: Peninsula Stadium has a noticeable slope across the pitch — from the Moor Lane Stand down to the Neville Road Stand. It’s clearly visible from the terrace and can be an unusual sight if you’re not expecting it. No impact on viewing, just worth knowing about.

💭 FINAL THOUGHTS

The Peninsula Stadium is a genuinely interesting away day — compact, modern and with those spectacular badge-shaped floodlights. The East Terrace is a cracking standing section with good acoustics, and even a modest away following makes itself felt. The Pogues’ “Dirty Old Town” greeting the teams out is one of English football’s great matchday touches.

Beyond the football, Manchester and Salford offer an outstanding day out. The Lowry, Imperial War Museum North, MediaCityUK, the National Football Museum and the Northern Quarter’s bars are all world-class. This is one of the best cities in England for making a full weekend of an away trip — don’t just come for the match.

The golden rule: plan your pre-match around Manchester city centre, not the ground. Drink in town, catch the 97 or 98 bus, enjoy the atmosphere, and admire those floodlights. Remember the stadium is cashless — leave the coins at home. Salford is a proper, honest League Two away day with a big-city backdrop.
