Totally agree, using delicious to describe a pass, a goal or a tackle is lazy and fatuous.
The only use for the word delicious at a football match is to describe the half-time pie, although I doubt you’d use it then at most grounds

I have long felt commentators spend much too much time discussing the team's and individuals' previous performances, rattling off unnecessary statistics and hardly any time describing the game. A very bad example was recent Carabao Cup Newcastle v Spurs - they seemed to assume that the viewer knows all the players by sight and hardly ever name them in passages of play. That is the first thing I want to know: who is playing the ball? Indeed for my purposes if they did that thoroughly that is all I need to know. They seem more concerned with demonstrating their encyclopaedic knowledge of the game than enlightening the viewer about what is happening on the pitch. Quite often they are still engaged in their discourse as a goal is abuout to be scored. It drives me mad!
