Etihad Stadium is Manchester City’s home and one of the Premier League’s finest modern stadiums. Originally built as the City of Manchester Stadium for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, City moved here in 2003 from their historic Maine Road ground. Following the completion of the North Stand expansion (now named the Pep Guardiola Stand), capacity has grown to around 61,500, combining impressive scale with an intimate, atmospheric design that brings fans close to the pitch.

The stadium benefits from excellent public transport links, including the Metrolink tram system (with a dedicated Etihad Campus stop), mainline trains (Manchester Piccadilly is closest), and buses. The regenerated Etihad Campus area now includes numerous facilities, making it a destination beyond matchdays.

🚂 BY TRAIN – The Recommended Choice

Why Trains Work: Manchester Piccadilly station has excellent connections from across the UK. From Piccadilly, catch the Metrolink tram direct to Etihad Campus stop (12-15 mins, every 12 minutes). The tram drops you right at the stadium entrance – it’s genuinely one of the easiest away days in the Premier League for public transport. Alternatively, Manchester Victoria offers good connections and tram access.

💡 Top Tip: Arrive at Manchester Piccadilly 2-3 hours before kick-off. Explore Manchester city centre (Northern Quarter, Arndale Centre), grab lunch, have drinks in the pubs, then catch the Metrolink East line tram from Piccadilly to Etihad Campus around 90 minutes before kick-off. The tram takes 12-15 minutes and stops RIGHT at the stadium entrance – absolutely brilliant!

🚗 BY CAR – More Feasible Than Old Trafford

⚠️ Parking Information: The Etihad area has better parking options than Old Trafford, but it’s still challenging on matchdays. Official stadium car parks are for season ticket holders only. However, numerous surrounding industrial estates and businesses offer matchday parking. The Metrolink tram remains the easiest option.

If You Drive:

• Directions: M60 motorway Junction 23 (clockwise) or Junction 24 (anticlockwise), follow signs to Etihad Stadium via Ashton New Road (A635)
• Blue Badge Parking: Available at the stadium for disabled badge holders – pre-book through the club
• Surrounding Streets: Industrial areas east of the stadium (Grey Mare Lane, Forge Lane area) have numerous businesses offering £8-£15 parking – arrive early!
• Private Parking: Book in advance at parkopedia.co.uk or yourparkingspace.co.uk – plenty of options within a 10- 15-minute walk
• The Etihad Campus Car Parks: Very limited public matchday parking – usually £15-£20 if available, book online in advance

🚨 Our Advice: The Metrolink is genuinely brilliant for Etihad Stadium – trains from Piccadilly every 12 minutes, 12-15 minute journey, £3-£4, and it stops AT the stadium entrance. Unless you’re staying locally, use the tram. If you must drive, book parking in advance through private operators in the surrounding industrial areas. Expect 30-45 minutes to exit car parks after the match.

🍺 PUBS & DRINKS NEAR THE ETIHAD STADIUM

⚠️ IMPORTANT ADVICE: The area immediately around the Etihad has limited pub options, and most are City strongholds. The safest and most enjoyable approach is to drink in Manchester city centre before the match (where there are hundreds of excellent pubs), then take the 12-15 minute Metrolink tram to the stadium. Exercise discretion with away colours near the ground, especially for derby matches.
