Barnet – The Hive Stadium

🐝 THE HIVE STADIUM 🐝

Barnet FC – Your Complete Travel Guide

🐝 ABOUT THE HIVE STADIUM

The Hive Stadium is one of the more unique grounds you’ll visit in English football – a purpose-built, modern facility sitting in the middle of what is effectively Europe’s largest dedicated football complex. Located on Camrose Avenue in Edgware, North London, the stadium opened in 2013 and has a capacity of 6,500, with around 5,419 seated.

It forms the centrepiece of The Hive London – a sprawling 44-acre site encompassing FIFA Pro 2-star certified 5-a-side and 11-a-side pitches, a public gym, conference facilities, and a café bar. The ground itself comprises three main stands: the large Legends Stand (West), the smaller Hive Stand (East), and the modern North Stand (Stand’ 66) – the away end – which was added in 2016 and holds around 1,900 visiting supporters.

The North Stand is fully covered, offers excellent sightlines, has no pillars blocking the view, and features its own dedicated bar. Away fans can also choose to sit in Sections F and G of the West Stand for smaller allocations. One fun quirk: the teams emerge to “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses – every single time. You have been warned.

Barnet FC were founded in 1888 and is one of the oldest clubs in London. Known as The Bees, they played at the beloved but dilapidated Underhill Stadium from 1907 all the way until 2013 – a remarkable 106 years – before finally making the move to The Hive following a long-running dispute with the London Borough of Barnet over the lease.

The club has bounced between League Two and the National League over recent decades, but returned to the EFL in 2025 after winning the National League title with a record-breaking 102 points. Famous names to have worn the orange and black include Edgar Davids, who famously became player-manager, as well as Jimmy Greaves, Jason Puncheon, and Yannick Bolasie. Barnet has a genuine community spirit, and their Hive London facility is a model for how clubs can develop their home into a true hub. A historic club making its mark on the modern game.

The Hive Stadium is located in Edgware in the London Borough of Harrow – roughly six miles from the club’s original Barnet home. It’s actually one of the more accessible League Two grounds you’ll visit, sitting just a short walk from Canons Park Underground Station on the Jubilee Line.

For most away fans, the Tube is by far the easiest option and means you can avoid London driving and parking headaches entirely. The stadium is well signposted from the station, and the walk takes you through a pleasant park setting. If you’re driving, the M1 and A5 are your main arteries, and on-site parking is available. Being in London, getting the Tube really is the way to go here – treat yourself to a proper London day out while you’re at it.

🍺 PUBS & DRINKS NEAR THE HIVE STADIUM

⚠ IMPORTANT ADVICE: Edgware is a quiet suburban neighbourhood, and the pub scene near The Hive is limited. The best strategy is to drink on the Jubilee Line journey (JJ Moon’s at Kingsbury is the go-to) and then use the dedicated away bar inside the stadium. Barnet fans are generally friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

💭 FINAL THOUGHTS

The Hive Stadium is an impressive modern venue for League Two football, part of Europe’s largest dedicated football facility. The North Stand offers a proper away terrace experience with excellent sightlines, a dedicated bar, and a distinctive look from its orange seats. With convenient on-site parking, easy Tube access, and friendly staff, it provides a smooth away-day experience, though it lacks the historical charm of Barnet’s old Underhill.

Beyond the football, you’re visiting London – one of the great cities on earth. The Barnet borough itself rewards exploration: the RAF Museum in Hendon is a world-class attraction that should be on any football traveller’s itinerary, the Battle of Barnet site connects you to 15th-century English history, and Trent Park offers a genuine countryside escape barely 30 minutes from the city centre. Barnet town is a charming medieval market town with decent pubs, good food, and a warm community feel. Hampstead Heath and Wembley Stadium are both just a few Tube stops away if you want to pad out the weekend.

As an away day destination, this is a trip that genuinely rewards combining with a wider London weekend. Arrive Friday, explore Saturday morning, catch the match in the afternoon, and round off with a London evening – you won’t be short of options. The Jubilee Line makes the logistics almost suspiciously easy for a London ground, and Barnet is a friendly, community-minded club with a warm welcome for travelling supporters. The beer prices are what they are (it’s London, you’ve been warned), but factor that in and there’s a great away day here.

Get on the Jubilee Line, hear “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, and enjoy the Bees in their buzzing new home! 🐝
