⚽ NEW YORK STADIUM ⚽

Rotherham United – Your Complete Travel Guide

🏟 ABOUT THE NEW YORK STADIUM

The New York Stadium is Rotherham United’s proudly modern home, built on the site of the former Guest and Chrimes Foundry in an area of town historically known as “New York” – hence the name. Opened in July 2012 at a cost of £25 million and designed by S+P Architects, this 12,021-capacity stadium brought The Millers back to Rotherham after five years exiled at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium. The four joined-up stands create a proper enclosed bowl with excellent acoustics, distinctive continental-style floodlights, and superb sightlines from every seat. In November 2014, local engineering company AESSEAL purchased the naming rights, giving the ground its full official name: the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Rotherham United were founded in 1925 from a merger of Rotherham County and Rotherham Town, though the club’s roots stretch back even further. The Millers spent 101 years at their beloved Millmoor (1907–2008) before a dispute with the ground’s owner forced a difficult temporary relocation. Their story is one of remarkable resilience and community spirit – and the New York Stadium, with its modern facilities and outstanding town centre location, represents a fitting reward for loyal supporters. The foundry that previously occupied the site once manufactured fire hydrants specifically for New York City, giving the stadium’s name a genuinely fascinating historical footnote.
