ℹ️ 2026-27 Season Guide: All information has been researched and verified for the 2026-27 National League season. The club changed ownership in summer 2026, so keep an eye out for any ground or club developments as the new regime settles in.

🏟️ ABOUT THE LAMB GROUND

The Lamb Ground, officially the Altair Group Community Stadium at The Lamb, has been Tamworth’s home since 1934, named after the old Lamb Inn that once stood at the entrance to what is now the car park. It holds 4,065, with 518 of those seats in the Main Stand, and remains a proper, traditional non-league ground despite its unassuming exterior.

The Main Stand, built in 1996-97, straddles the halfway line on one side of the pitch and offers the best view in the ground, though its modest size means tickets can sell out if you leave it late. Opposite is the Shed, a covered terrace running nearly the full length of the pitch and home to the club’s most vocal supporters, the “Shed Choir” — look out for the model owl on its roof, put there to deter pigeons. The open Castle End and the partly covered Meadow Street End complete the ground, with the sizeable Tamworth Snowdome looming over one corner.

Away fans are housed in the Meadow End, a compact, partly covered terrace holding around 850, with roughly 90 additional seats available in the Main Stand for those who’d rather sit. For fixtures with a bigger travelling following, half of the Shed can also be opened up to away supporters. The pitch itself is a 3G artificial surface, installed in 2016 to level out the ground’s old natural slope.

Tamworth, nicknamed the Lambs, play in red and black and won the FA Vase in 1989, beating Sudbury Town in a Wembley final replay. After years bouncing between non-league divisions, back-to-back promotions in 2022-23 and 2023-24 returned the club to the National League for the first time since 2014. They marked their return with a club-record 10th-place finish in 2024-25, capped by an FA Cup run that saw off Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion before a 3-0 extra-time defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at The Lamb. They finished 10th again in 2025-26.

Tamworth itself is a historic Staffordshire market town, home to a genuine Norman castle, a short walk from the ground and the well-known Tamworth Snowdome next door; a genuinely unusual sight for an away day.

🏰 THE STAFFORDSHIRE EXPERIENCE

🏆 A Recent FA Cup Giant-Killing Run: Tamworth’s 2024-25 FA Cup run — beating Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion before extra time against Tottenham Hotspur — is one of the standout non-league cup stories of recent seasons.

❄️ A Ground Overlooked by a Snow Slope: The Tamworth Snowdome looms over one corner of The Lamb — a genuinely unusual backdrop by National League standards.

🎶 The Shed Choir: Most of the noise at The Lamb comes from the Shed terrace, home to Tamworth’s most vocal supporters — a proper old-school non-league atmosphere.

🍺 Award-Winning Pubs: Tamworth’s town centre punches above its weight for real ale, with a CAMRA National Pub of the Year among its options.

🏢 New Ownership for 2026-27: The club changed hands in summer 2026, so it’s worth keeping an eye on developments both on and off the pitch this season.

⚽ MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE

🏟️ Deceptively Charming: The Lamb looks unremarkable from the outside but is genuinely well-maintained inside — a proper case of not judging a book by its cover.

🎫 Book Early for the Main Stand: With only 518 seats, the Main Stand can sell out ahead of matchday — book online in advance if you’d rather sit than stand.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Under-18 Tickets Online Only: Some fixtures require under-18s to buy tickets online in advance, with none sold at the gate on the day — check the club website before travelling if this applies to you.

🏟️ Clubhouse Access Varies: Away fans are usually welcomed into the clubhouse, but this can change for local derbies or high-risk fixtures — check in advance if it matters to your plans.

🚆 Easy Post-Match Getaway: With Tamworth station on the West Coast Main Line and direct trains to both London and Birmingham, getting away after the game is straightforward.

💭 FINAL THOUGHTS

The Lamb Ground is a proper slice of traditional non-league football — unremarkable from the outside, genuinely well kept within, and with a Shed End atmosphere that punches above its weight. The away end is compact but close to the action, and there’s a real sense of a club on a genuine upward curve after years of yo-yoing between divisions.

Tamworth itself is a proper bonus for this away day — a genuine Norman castle within walking distance of the ground, an indoor snow slope overlooking one corner of the stadium, and a town centre with some genuinely excellent, award-winning pubs.

Add in a direct rail link from London Euston, a club still riding high on a memorable FA Cup run against Tottenham, and one of the more distinctive settings in the division, and this is a genuinely enjoyable and easy National League away day.

A castle, a snow slope, and a proper Shed End atmosphere. ⚽
