🏛️ ABOUT CRAVEN COTTAGE

Craven Cottage is arguably the most beautiful and characterful football ground in England, nestled on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham, West London. Home to Fulham Football Club since 1896, this stunning 29,600-capacity stadium is surrounded by mature trees and bordered by the Thames Path, creating an utterly unique setting that feels more like a country estate than a London football ground.

The famous Johnny Haynes Stand Pavilion cottage, dating from 1905 and listed Grade II*, is an architectural gem and instantly recognisable landmark. With its riverside location, tree-lined surroundings, and Victorian charm, Craven Cottage offers one of football’s most enchanting experiences.

Fulham – The Cottagers – are London’s oldest established football club still playing professional football, founded in 1879. The club has a proud history including reaching the FA Cup Final in 1975 and the Europa League Final in 2010 under Roy Hodgson. Fulham have been a regular presence in the top flight since the Al-Fayed era began in 1997, with the club developing a reputation for attractive football and an excellent academy that has produced talents like Ryan Sessegnon, Patrick Roberts, and Harvey Elliott.

The distinctive white and black colours have been worn since the club’s formation, and the nickname “The Cottagers” comes from the historic riverside cottage that gives the ground its name. The famous Craven Cottage atmosphere is enhanced by the neutral sections, creating a genuine football family feel rather than tribalism.

Recent redevelopment has modernised much of the stadium whilst maintaining its historic charm. The spectacular new Riverside Stand, which began construction in 2019 and fully opened in May 2025, replaced the old structure with a striking five-tier stand featuring world-class hospitality facilities that perfectly complement the Thames setting.

Despite modernisation, Craven Cottage retains bags of character with its unique riverside location, mature trees, and that gorgeous pavilion cottage. This is one of the most atmospheric and distinctive grounds in world football.

🚗 GETTING TO CRAVEN COTTAGE

Craven Cottage is beautifully located on the Thames in Fulham, West London, with excellent public transport links. The nearest tube station is Putney Bridge (District Line), just a scenic 10-minute walk along the Thames Path. The riverside location and tree-lined approach make this one of the most pleasant stadium walks in English football.

Craven Cottage Address: Stevenage Road, London, SW6 6HH

✅ BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT – Highly Recommended

Why Tube is Best: Putney Bridge station (District Line) is just a delightful 10-minute riverside walk from Craven Cottage. The Thames Path approach through Bishop’s Park is one of the most scenic stadium walks you’ll ever experience. Forget driving in London traffic – the tube is fast, frequent, and stress-free. Use contactless payment or Oyster card for best fares.

Primary Option: Putney Bridge (District Line)

✅ Distance: 10-minute scenic walk along Thames Path

🚇 Line: District Line (Green)

🔵 Route: Exit station onto Fulham High Street, turn left towards the river, follow Thames Path through Bishop’s Park

🎯 Best Option: Absolutely brilliant – riverside walk through beautiful park, can’t be beaten!

Alternative: Hammersmith (District/Piccadilly Lines)
  • Distance: 20-minute walk via Hammersmith Bridge
  • More transport options (District & Piccadilly Lines)
  • Useful if Putney Bridge is overcrowded
  • Cross historic Hammersmith Bridge, walk south along riverside

Journey Times to Putney Bridge:

🔴 Victoria: 20 minutes (District Line direct)

🟠 King’s Cross/St Pancras: 40 minutes (change at Embankment)

🟡 Liverpool Street: 40 minutes (change at Embankment)

🟢 Paddington: 25 minutes (change at Embankment)

🔵 Euston: 35 minutes (change at Embankment)

Taxi/Uber Option
  • From Central London: £15-30 depending on traffic and location

  • Black cabs and Uber readily available across London

🚗 BY CAR – Not Recommended

Postcode for Sat Nav: SW6 6HH

⚠️ Important Warning: Driving to Craven Cottage is strongly discouraged. The stadium is in a residential area with extremely limited parking, West London traffic is horrendous on matchdays, and you’ll spend more time stuck in traffic than enjoying the match. There’s no stadium parking for away fans, street parking is resident-only, and nearby car parks fill up quickly and are expensive (£20-30+). Seriously, take the tube – it’s genuinely the better option.

If You Must Drive:

  • From M4/West: Exit onto A4 towards Central London, follow signs for Hammersmith, then south to Fulham – but expect heavy traffic and very limited parking!
  • From M1/North: A1 to North Circular, join A406 then A4 towards Hammersmith – again, parking is a nightmare
  • Parking Options: Bishop’s Park car park (very limited, arrive very early), Q-Park Imperial Wharf (20-minute walk), street parking virtually impossible due to resident zones
  • Alternative: Park at a tube station outside Central London (e.g. Ealing Broadway, Richmond) and take the tube in – much less stressful!
