💙 ABOUT THE ETIHAD STADIUM
The Etihad Stadium is Manchester City’s home and one of the Premier League’s finest modern stadiums. Originally built as the City of Manchester Stadium for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, City moved here in 2003 from their historic Maine Road ground. With a current capacity of 53,400 (soon to be expanded to 61,000+), the Etihad combines impressive scale with an intimate, atmospheric design that brings fans close to the pitch. Located in East Manchester, the stadium is within the transformed Etihad Campus – a state-of-the-art complex that includes world-class training facilities, the City Football Academy, and community facilities. The stadium’s distinctive bowl design, with steep stands, creates excellent acoustics and one of the Premier League’s most intense atmospheres.
Manchester City – The Citizens or The Sky Blues – is one of English football’s most historic clubs, founded in 1880. City have won 10 league championships (including 6 in the past 13 seasons under the transformational ownership that began in 2008), 7 FA Cups, 8 League Cups, and 1 Champions League. The club’s modern era under Pep Guardiola has seen City play some of the most beautiful football ever witnessed in England, winning multiple Premier League titles with record-breaking points totals and becoming the first English club to win four consecutive top-flight titles (2020-21 to 2023-24).
The sky blue shirts have been worn since 1894, and the club’s motto “Superbia in Proelio” (Pride in Battle) reflects the working-class East Manchester roots and fierce determination. City supporters are passionate and loyal, having endured decades of ups and downs before recent success, and they create a brilliant atmosphere. The Manchester derby against United is one of world football’s great rivalries, particularly intense given the contrasting histories and recent power shift.

The regenerated Etihad Campus area now includes numerous facilities, making it a destination beyond just matchdays.
🗺️ STADIUM LOCATION MAP
Etihad Stadium Address: Etihad Stadium, Ashton New Road, Manchester, M11 3FF
🚂 BY TRAIN – The Recommended Choice
Why Trains Work: Manchester Piccadilly station has excellent connections from across the UK. From Piccadilly, take the Metrolink tram directly to the Etihad Campus stop (12-15 mins, every 12 minutes). The tram drops you right at the stadium entrance – it’s genuinely one of the easiest away days in the Premier League for public transport. Alternatively, Manchester Victoria offers good connections and tram access.
🚂 Manchester Piccadilly Station: Main railway terminus
- Distance to Etihad: 2 miles (12-15 min Metrolink tram / 25 min walk)
- Direct Services From: London Euston (2hrs 10mins), Liverpool (50mins), Leeds (1hr), Birmingham (1hr 30mins), Edinburgh (3hrs 30mins)
- Metrolink to Etihad: Catch the East line tram from Piccadilly towards Ashton-under-Lyne, alight at Etihad Campus stop (£3-£4 single)
- Manchester Trams (Metrolink): tfgm.com
🚂 Manchester Victoria Station: Alternative mainline station
- Services: Northern England destinations, useful for Yorkshire and Lancashire

💡 Top Tip: Arrive at Manchester Piccadilly 2-3 hours before kick-off. Explore Manchester city centre (Northern Quarter, Arndale Centre), grab lunch, have drinks in the pubs, then catch the Metrolink East line tram from Piccadilly to Etihad Campus around 90 minutes before kick-off. 🚗 BY CAR – More Feasible Than Old Trafford
⚠️ Parking Information: The Etihad area has better parking options than Old Trafford but it’s still challenging on matchdays. Official stadium car parks are for season ticket holders only. However, numerous surrounding industrial estates and businesses offer matchday parking. The Metrolink tram remains the easiest option.
If You Drive:
- Directions: M60 motorway Junction 23 (clockwise) or Junction 24 (anticlockwise), follow signs to Etihad Stadium via Ashton New Road (A635)
- Blue Badge Parking: Available at the stadium for disabled badge holders – pre-book through the club
- Surrounding Streets: Industrial areas east of the stadium (Grey Mare Lane, Forge Lane) have numerous businesses offering £8-£15 parking; arrive early.
- Private Parking: Book in advance at parkopedia.co.uk or yourparkingspace.co.uk – plenty of options within 10-15 minutes’ walk
- The Etihad Campus Car Parks: Very limited public matchday parking – usually £15-£20 if available, book online in advance
🚨 Our Advice: The Metrolink is genuinely brilliant for Etihad Stadium – trains from Piccadilly every 12 minutes, 12-15 minute journey, £3-£4, and it stops AT the stadium entrance. Unless you’re staying locally, use the tram. If you must drive, book parking in advance through private operators in the surrounding industrial areas. Expect 30-45 minutes to exit the car parks after the match.
